Support Notes:

i) 2 Player Mode requires access to wifi OR 2 devices with compatible bluetooth.

ii) Karate Champ provides a lag free experience but to ensure best results use either Wifi OR Bluetooth but dont leave both on as it can cause network confusion in rare cases.

iii) Karate Champ has been designed for iPhone and iPod Touch play but also looks and plays GREAT on the iPad with 2x scaling and of course multiplayer via wifi/bluetooth. :)

*Separate dedicated iPad version Karate Champ XL also available with 2 Player head to head SPLITSCREEN mode.

Pros and cons of Karate Champ app for iPhone and iPad

Karate Champ app good for

Its actually a great version of the arcade game, the problem is its REALLY uncomfortable to play. Since the game is played vertically your hands feel like they are being crushed trying to use the joysticks. But I guess the game is simple enough that it doesnt really affect your ability to play the game, its just a bit annoying. The game doesnt give you any continues to work with so the challenge is definitely there. The multiplayer I havent touched as I have a older version of the iphone, but I will update it to try it out. I do hope they add a option to play the game in widescreen mode and put the joysticks on the left and right of the gameplay area. I guess it wouldnt look like an arcade cabinet as much but it would help with the comfort factor. Sound wise its perfect, great sound effects. The menus are pretty good too.
I used to plunk quarters into the original arcade game so to see this on my iPhone is so cool! My only complaint: the game is still too hard. Maybe add an update with the ability to start where you last died? Thank you for bringing back a classic game!!!
This was one of my favorite arcade games. So glad I found this gem. I even remembered the combos! Multiplayer works good. Had a bit of trouble syncing but it eventually worked without a hitch. Single player on hard offers a good challenge although I remember the arcade version being tougher. All in all a great game and totally worth getting!
A perfect translation and one of the most entertaining games. I was stunned to find this game here. Well worth the money for it and more. Still as much fun as ever.
Totally recreates the feel and style of the original!!! I feel like I am back in an arcade on the 80s.
Man I used to steal change from my mom everyday to play this game! I had a 5 dollar a day habbit for this game. Exactly like the original, controls are easy to use. Great work guys!! The only thing you need to add is a continue mode when you loose so you can keep progressing through the levels to ffinally ight the dreaded black gi!

Some bad moments

The look is like the arcade but it is totally unplayable. The buttons are to close to the stick, there is a lot of lag. For me this game is not to be recommended at all
Great nostalgia! I used to love these guys and the way they moved. However, theres no lunge punch. You used to be able to lunge punch the head or the body(forward,up or forward, forward). Those just dont exist here and its a major disappointment in a pay app.
Like the old game, Ill give you 5 points for that. + + + + + Im taking points away for playability though. - No recovery if you have to pause to take a call or use another app - controls are a bit squirrelly when you need to time things properly (breaking boards for example) - the last Champ (there is more than one by the way, imagine my chagrin when I thought I had beaten the game), can this dude be beaten? I get to the 2nd CMP nearly every time, beat the first round the almost never even score in the second. WtF? You get two stars until you fix these basic issues. (hint, the first one is unforgivable in 2010)
This game brings back a lot of memories from my childhood...I loved playing this back in the 80s at the arcade, so of course I jumped at the chance to buy this...I am some what disappointed. First, the lack of widescreen makes this an awkward affair to say the least. I have pretty small hands and it still feels cramped! Secondly, you have to go un-defeated to beat the game...Really? This game is difficult enough, let alone having to go un-defeated to beat it. How is this supposed to be fun? Third, and the most egregious, is the horrible control scheme. I know that its on a touch device but these controls are tepid at best. At least allow the option for button presses to simplify the process on an iDevice (a la Street Fighter IV). Finally, if I am going to have to play with a cramped screen and terrible controls then the least you could do as a developer is implement GameCenter achievements. I know this is a rant but I really loved this game when I was a kid! I suppose I could acclimate to the controls with time but the other stuff I mentioned really needs to be implemented for this to be a four to five star quality app.
I have decades of playtime on this title. The controls are very slow to respond and "clunky". Very difficult to properly block and counter. Coders need to fix this. If you ignore me, you will get cancer. Fix it.
Played once and lost the sound... What happened, no volume control in settings. Controls are hard. Fix sound problem!!
