Karate Champ App Reviews

This is a perfect port of the ultra-rare Karate Champ "Player vs. Player" edition, which Ive never actually seen in person. In both single and lag-free multiplayer, this is KC in pixel-by-pixel glory. You even get to configure your display output to meet your perfectionist desires. I also recommend "Cobra Command" for a glorious Japan-only laserdisc game that is better than any LD title Ive played in the states.

Awesome game, needs multi-tasking and landscape mode, these changes would make it a superb game.

This game is the bomb. I used to play it with my siblings at pizza hut on pizza Friday as a kid. Why the F do you only get one life???? Is that how the arcade was??? Also, you have to beat the computer twice and if he beats you once youre done. Like the old school scenes but NEED to have a way to "fast forward" that crap. Landscape would be cool. It plays well, though, pretty impressed.

I remember playing this game when I was a little boy. It is just the way I remember it. You wont be disapointed.

This game is pretty awesome. I play it a lot, and got pretty far. Luckily it was only .99 cents when I got it.

Love it to the Max! Spent hours at the arcade as a teen trying to master it. So glad its right in my hands now at all times!! Good job, get it now!!

Great game, loved it as a kid love it as an adult. Wish it worked with multitasking or kept your high scores, oh well. Such a steal at .99 since I probably put $100 bucks into the machine as a kid

I own this machine and this app is arcade perfect! Hope to see more like this one, its phenomenal!

Like the old game, Ill give you 5 points for that. + + + + + Im taking points away for playability though. - No recovery if you have to pause to take a call or use another app - controls are a bit squirrelly when you need to time things properly (breaking boards for example) - the last Champ (there is more than one by the way, imagine my chagrin when I thought I had beaten the game), can this dude be beaten? I get to the 2nd CMP nearly every time, beat the first round the almost never even score in the second. WtF? You get two stars until you fix these basic issues. (hint, the first one is unforgivable in 2010)

I would give this 5 stars if there was landscape mode

This is a well done port of a great classic arcade game. If you are old enough to remember the original, then this is a no-brainer. If you know nothing about 1980 arcades then do yourself a favor and try it out. You will not be disappointed :-)

I saw this app and almost hit the floor. KARATE CHAMP! WOW! In the early 80s I rode my banana seat bike 2 miles to the local mall with a pocket full of a roll of quarters and would spend All DAY playing this baby. This game gave me GREAT joy and many GREAT memories...as many of the arcade greats did! NOW--I am a 5th degree black belt and a proud owner of a martial arts dojo! This translation of this game is well done and the music is HYSTERICAL---I remembered it immedietly. I still remembered many of the moves when I was little. AND if you are a fan of the movie BLOODSPORT---you smiled insanly as Van Damn played the arcade classic you loved as a child This app brings back memories. Hopefully--you are old enough to have played this great game in its arcade form. (if you are 30 something and up--you will remember this one!) Dont listen to the negative feedbacks. Im old enough to remember the growth of videogames to see the very beginnings and watch them grow to what they are today. I have respect for the old greats--OF COURSE its not a PS3--but it was great for its time. Of course NOTHING is like holding onto the control sticks of the arcade machine--the only drawback is getting used to the controls. For being on the iPad--the controls are very receptive and move smoothly....so it is not too bad. MY ONLY COMPLAINT?......I played it and it was originally voiced in JAPANEESE!! Id LOVE it to be an update tho. HAJIME--"begin" YAME--"stop" IPPON--"Full point" WAZA ARI--"half point" GET THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE SOUNDTRACK---to make this classic complete. THANKS FOR MAKING THIS A GREAT APP.....and not ruining it--like so many others do!!!!! TAMARA

Hey Karate champ is the one of the best fighting games of all time. I remember this game when it first came out and i was one ot if not the best in my neighborhood. This port is pretty good but still needs work. it is missing many things such as the names and high scores. also what is missing is the practice stage at the very begining of the game.the controls are a bit quirky but thats expected it will never be as on point as analog controls.I will give 5 stars when updated.

This game brings back a lot of memories from my childhood...I loved playing this back in the 80s at the arcade, so of course I jumped at the chance to buy this...I am some what disappointed. First, the lack of widescreen makes this an awkward affair to say the least. I have pretty small hands and it still feels cramped! Secondly, you have to go un-defeated to beat the game...Really? This game is difficult enough, let alone having to go un-defeated to beat it. How is this supposed to be fun? Third, and the most egregious, is the horrible control scheme. I know that its on a touch device but these controls are tepid at best. At least allow the option for button presses to simplify the process on an iDevice (a la Street Fighter IV). Finally, if I am going to have to play with a cramped screen and terrible controls then the least you could do as a developer is implement GameCenter achievements. I know this is a rant but I really loved this game when I was a kid! I suppose I could acclimate to the controls with time but the other stuff I mentioned really needs to be implemented for this to be a four to five star quality app.

Really loved this game when it was in the arcade at my local bowling alley when I was a kid. Great job on the app but needs a few updates! 1. As many reviewers have said landscape mode would be nice. 2. Whats up with having to go undefeated? You have to beat the computer 2/3 matches but lose one match and its game over?! I dont think that was the setting on the original or I doubt I would have spent so much money playing the game! My memory isnt perfect though...

I use to play this game a lot as a kid and its still fun to play! Same great sounds and its just as exciting as usual! If only I could play this game in landscape mode then Id give it five stars!
